Gourd Painting

This painting is actually my favorite piece that i have created this year so far. I liked this piece because the colors are very vibrant and painting is one of my favorite things to do. While creating this piece i started painting the darks before the lights. This was actually more helpful than going from lights to the darks. The hardest part of creating this was mixing the acrylic paint and getting just the right color for the shadows. Overall, this piece was a huge success and i am really happy with how it turned out.

Final Wax Encaustic

The final wax encaustic i created was a landscape of a garden in a field. I used lace for the tree's and the flowers to bring out the shape and color of the imbedded texture. The most difficult part of making a wax encaustic was blending the wax colors together to make it look like the colors were organic. The colors in the sky almost look as though it is the top of an ocean and the green tree's are seaweed under the ocean surface. This piece could be interpreted in different ways, but my intention was to create a landscape scene with a garden. Using the wax to make artwork was actually very interesting to me to see how the colors blend and how objects, pieces of magazines, letters, stamps, and other techniques could be used in this type of artwork.

Wax Encaustic

This piece was a practice wax encaustic to see how the wax moves and how fast the wax dries. This practice piece was very helpful when creating a final wax encaustic. Using tools or any other objects that i found could be pressed into the wax to create value and texture. Also, mixing the colors together and spreading the wax to make a mini landscape was very helpful to bring out the structure of the piece. Doing this piece was very helpful and inspiring because it was a lot easier to better understand how the wax works and what looked good when using the colors.
